ITAQ launches the first cohort of the new short-term AEC in dairy processing
10 February 2026
The Quebec Institute of Agri-Food Technology (ITAQ) is proud to announce the start of the very first cohort for the Attestation of College Studies in Milk Processing Techniques for Dairy Products (AEC TTLPL) – short-duration format (COUD). This innovative program, created in collaboration with the Conseil des industriels laitiers du Québec (CILQ) and designed with the help of the Centre d’expertise fromagère du Québec (CEFQ), was developed to meet the specific skills development needs of dairy processing companies. The initiative is made possible thanks to a financial contribution of $496,774 from the Government of Quebec under the Short-Duration Training Program (COUD), which prioritizes internships in professions identified by the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail.
This new format allows employees to enhance their skills while remaining active within their companies. Approximately 40% of the practical learning will take place directly in the workplace, under the supervision of an internship supervisor trained by ITAQ. Participating companies will also receive financial compensation to facilitate the release of employees during study hours.
The 585-hour training program, spread over two semesters, will train technicians with the following competencies:
-
Ensuring the proper operation of dairy processing equipment
-
Applying manufacturing processes and quality standards
-
Complying with health, safety, and environmental regulations
-
Participating in audits and production planning
The first cohort, composed of eight students from five companies, has begun its journey, marking a significant milestone for the Quebec dairy industry.
“This innovative training is a concrete response to the recruitment and retention challenges in the dairy processing sector. It illustrates our commitment to offering solutions adapted to the needs of businesses and workers,” says Christine Ferland, Director of Continuing Education at ITAQ.
